Home What's New
We have just received the sad news that Max Wilson has passed away.
He departed peacefully in hospital care on 2016 September 25, aged 88.
As Trevor Caswell acknowledges - Max was a leading light in the lighting industry and was fondly known to many of us in Queensland and around Australia. He was the catalyst that encouraged the development of Australian lighting design software in the 70s and 80s, especially the creation of Perfect Lite by Trevor. Max was a willing mentor and in-depth talking post for many of us on all subjects associated with lighting...
An open invitation is extended to all Max's family, friends and work colleagues to attend a
Low Key Celebration of Max Wilson's Life
with Trevor Caswell and others
on October 15, Saturday from 2 to 4pm at the following address:
Kensington Outdoor Area
Arcare Aged Care
8 Janice Street, Slacks Creek, Logan, Queensland 4114
RSVP: Not required
BYO: Drinks (alcohol is ok) and nibbles

Primary changes include:
- Interior zone road average luminance level requirements for the Design Speed have changed (Table 3.2)
- There is now optional use of the new Interior Sub Zone 2 that allows the day time interior luminance to be reduced by half after 30 seconds of travel at the Design Speed from the beginning of the Interior Zone (Clause 3.3.4)
- Clause E3.3 now refers to AS/NZS 1158.2 - 2005 Clause 3.2 for observer placement for all calculations - part of this change results in NZ luminance per lane requirements.

Transfer of Ownership
Regrettably, due to health reasons, it has become necessary to pass on the development, sale and support of the Perfect Lite range of lighting design software.
Graeme Palmer, Principal of Constant Energy, has agreed to take on these functions from June 2012. Graeme and I have previously collaborated in the development of the CEPLE AutoLISP Lighting Design Interface so Graeme is ably qualified to take Perfect Lite forward into the future.
I would like to thank you for your confidence and support over the years in my software endeavours and the development of this great Australian based lighting design software.

V Category Lighting (Version 5.01 Built: 29/11/05) was released to fix a bug found in the software. This bug incorrectly set up the calculation grid across the road for Arrangements 1 to 4 with Two Way traffic (Australia Mode). The effect gave slight variations in the Average Luminance and Overall Uniformity which in some cases impacted on the maximum spacings that were reported by the program.
Perfect Lite (Version 4.88), P Category Lighting (Version 3.00) and V Category Lighting (Version 5.00) were released which contained numerous changes to the software. Details of the changes can be found in this document Update Notes - Version 4.88.
The P Category Lighting & V Category Lighting software respectively supersedes the Pedestrian Area Lighting and Vehicular Traffic Lighting software due to the many revisions to the AS/NZS1158 series published in 2005

A specific area on the web site (www.perfectlite.com/upgrade) has been set up for Upgrade & Support Customers to download upgrade to the software etc.. The area is protected by a password.
The new www.perfectlite.com web site was launched.
Documentation and manuals have been added to the Download Area of the website for easy access.
Perfect Lite (Version 4.86), Upward Waste Light Ratio (Version 1.06) and SAASTAN - User Interface (Version 3.88) were released which incorporated only a very minor change that allowed each program to run quicker under Windows NT/2000 and print through a network under Windows NT/2000/XP.
Perfect Lite (Version 4.85) and SAASTAN - User Interface (Version 3.87) were released which incorporated only a very minor change that allowed each program to run under Windows NT/2000 (in a window) without any speed penalty.
Perfect Lite (Version 4.84), SAASTAN - User Interface (Version 3.86), Pedestrian Area Lighting (Version 2.04), Upward Waste Light Ratio (Version 1.05) released which incorporates the ability to print using the Windows Print Manager.
The Pedestrian Area Lighting software has been upgraded to have the option to display a table with the Light Technical Parameters for all complying spacings and/or the illuminance levels over the calculation grid.
On 5 November 1999 AS/NZS 1158.3.1:1999 was published as a further revision to the Australian/New Zealand Public Lighting Code. This standard introduces Category 'P' (Pedestrian Area) lighting which supersedes category B & C from AS1158.1-1986 and Minor Roads of NZS 6701:1983. Accordingly the Spacing Graph Generator has been replaced by a Windows application known as the Pedestrian Area Lighting software.
Release of Version 4.82 of Perfect Lite which encorporated several minor improvements and enhancements. The main enhancement is that the software has been made Year 2000 compliant
Release of the revised Public Lighting Code AS/NZS1158:1997 (in April 1997) has required changes to be made to the Luminaire Performance Assessment Software - Major Roads , the current version now being 2.01. The changes are quite significant with alterations and additions to the Light Technical Parameters (LTP's) in Table 2.1 of the Code.
Two new photometric data conversion software programs have been added to the already extensive range of programs available. These programs convert between the B-Beta and C-Gamma versions of the popular IESNA format.
Release of the revised Public Lighting Code AS/NZS1158:1997 (in April 1997) has required changes to be made to the SAASTAN -User Interface, the current version now being 3.84. These changes are quite significant with alterations and additions to the Light Technical Parameters (LTP's) in Table 2.1. You will have to obtain a copy of the Code to see how the changes impact on the work that you do.
One of the new LTP's introduced in AS/NZS1158:1997 is the Upward Waste Light Ratio (UWLR). The SAASTAN- User Interface software now encorporates suitable calculations for each SAASTAN run carried out. However, if a more detailed report on the UWLR for a particular photometric data file over a range of upcast angles is required then use of the Upward Waste Light Ratio software will be necessary.
