Perfect Lite Interface:

Version 2.04.12 is now available for the Perfect Lite Interface add-on for AutoCAD

This version is compatible with AutoCAD 2024

This version is now also compatible with AutoCAD LT 2024 which is the first version of LT with a LISP interpreter included

Perfect Light for Windows module:

A Beta version of the Perfect Lite for Windows software module is available - please contact us if this version is required.

Perfect Lite Design Version 5.07 Beta 3 (Built: 24/08/20) has the following changes:

- Zebra Crossing Lighting Design tool has option to select AS/NZS1158.4:2015 mode with Glare LTPs non-zero

- Lighting model DXF export more stable

We are currently working on Version 5.07, when released, this module will be renamed as Perfect Lite Design

This new version should be available during 2023.

Perfect Lite VCat + PCat:

We are currently working on new versions for use with AS/NZS 1158.1.1-2022 and AS/NZS 1158.3.1-2020

The new versions should be available during 2023.

Currently for the P Category Lighting module: Use the 'User Defined' option when selecting the AS/NZS 1158.3.1-2020 Lighting Category and type in the Category PR or PP LTPs from Table 3.3 or 3.4 in AS/NZS 1158.3.1-2020

Currently for the V Category Lighting module: Note the following:

1- The Disability glare LTP Threshold Increment (TI) has been changed to 15% (was 20%) for better glare control for solid state luminaires, refer to AS/NZS 1158.1.1-2022 Table 3.1 and Note e. Where compliance with 15% is required, inspect the V Category Lighting module results and read a 'NO' for any TI results that exceed 15%.

For New Zealand only: Note that Aukland Transport's Transport Design Manual sets a TI maximum value of 12% .

2- For New Zealand only: The default road surface reflection table has been changed to CIE R2 (was NZ N4 and NZ R2), refer to AS/NZS 1158.1.1-2022 Clause 4.2.1 (c) (ii). A factor can be applied to the input MF (Maintenace Factor) data value in the V Category Lighting module to adjust the NZR2 road surface luminance LTP calculated values to CIE R2 values. This also affects the calculated value of TI (Threshold Increment, the Disablity Glare LTP). Contact us for more information.

2016 October

We have just received the sad news that Max Wilson has passed away.

He departed peacefully in hospital care on 2016 September 25, aged 88.

As Trevor Caswell acknowledges - Max was a leading light in the lighting industry and was fondly known to many of us in Queensland and around Australia. He was the catalyst that encouraged the development of Australian lighting design software in the 70s and 80s, especially the creation of Perfect Lite by Trevor.  Max was a willing mentor and in-depth talking post for many of us on all subjects associated with lighting...

An open invitation is extended to all Max's family, friends and work colleagues to attend a

Low Key Celebration of Max Wilson's Life

with Trevor Caswell and others

on October 15, Saturday from 2 to 4pm at the following address:

  Kensington Outdoor Area

  Arcare Aged Care

8 Janice Street, Slacks Creek, Logan, Queensland 4114

RSVP: Not required

BYO: Drinks (alcohol is ok) and nibbles

2016 February

There is currently a "PleW-VerChk Run-time error '62': Input past end of file" when you open the Perfect Lite for Windows, P Category or V Category software modules. This is Perfect Lite website related and a fix will be posted soon. This error does not compromise the operation of the software modules.

AS/NZS 1158.4 - 2015 Lighting of Pedestrian Crossings was published on 2015 May 16 and now supercedes AS/NZS 1158.4 - 2009.

Primary changes include:

- Lighting PX category Posted Speed Limit selection table PX1 now >= 60km/h, PX2 now <= 60km/h (Table 3.1)

- Glare control at 90deg above downward vertical changed to values above 0cd (Table 3.2)

- New requirements of vertical illuminances at 45deg for Pedestrian Crossings located close to intersections (Clause 3.2.4.2 + Figure 3.3)

AS/NZS 1158.5 - 2014 Tunnels and Underpasses was published on 2014 November 14 and now supercedes AS/NZS 1158.5 - 2007.

Primary changes include:

- Interior zone road average luminance level requirements for the Design Speed have changed (Table 3.2)

- There is now optional use of the new Interior Sub Zone 2 that allows the day time interior luminance to be reduced by half after 30 seconds of travel at the Design Speed from the beginning of the Interior Zone (Clause 3.3.4)

- Clause E3.3 now refers to AS/NZS 1158.2 - 2005 Clause 3.2 for observer placement for all calculations - part of this change results in NZ luminance per lane requirements.

Transfer of Ownership

Regrettably, due to health reasons, it has become necessary to pass on the development, sale and support of the Perfect Lite range of lighting design software.

Graeme Palmer, Principal of Constant Energy, has agreed to take on these functions from June 2012.  Graeme and I have previously collaborated in the development of the CEPLE AutoLISP Lighting Design Interface so Graeme is ably qualified to take Perfect Lite forward into the future.

I would like to thank you for your confidence and support over the years in my software endeavours and the development of this great Australian based lighting design software.

The changes are quite significant with alterations and additions to the Light Technical Parameters (LTP's) in Table 2.1 of the Code.

Two new photometric data conversion software programs have been added to the already extensive range of programs available. These programs convert between the B-Beta and C-Gamma versions of the popular IESNA format.
1997 April
Release of the revised Public Lighting Code AS/NZS1158:1997 (in April 1997) has required changes to be made to the SAASTAN -User Interface, the current version now being 3.84. These changes are quite significant with alterations and additions to the Light Technical Parameters (LTP's) in Table 2.1. You will have to obtain a copy of the Code to see how the changes impact on the work that you do.
1997 April
One of the new LTP's introduced in AS/NZS1158:1997 is the Upward Waste Light Ratio (UWLR). The SAASTAN- User Interface software now encorporates suitable calculations for each SAASTAN run carried out. However, if a more detailed report on the UWLR for a particular photometric data file over a range of upcast angles is required then use of the Upward Waste Light Ratio software will be necessary.
