Frequently Asked Questions

I am currently in the process of compiling a range of questions that are regularly asked about Perfect Lite.   When done I will include them on this page with the relevant answers.

In the meantime, if you have any specific questions then please contact me on feedback@perfectlite.com and I will promptly get back to you.

You need to download the 'Comctl32.ocx' file and save in your c:\Windows\System or   c:\Windows\System32 folder.   Click here to download the file (608Kb).

Start up into Windows Explorer and delete the CEPLE.BAT file from the folder containing the Perfect Lite software (ie. location of file PLE.EXE - usually in the 'c:\ple' folder ).  This will immediately returns you to AutoCAD.

  • 'NTVDM Error' message encountered (as shown below)

Close down Perfect Lite and go into Windows Explorer and delete the CIOL.PLE and CIOL.BAK files from the folder containing the Perfect Lite software (ie. location of file PLE.EXE - usually in the 'c:\ple' folder).  Next time you start up Perfect Lite this error should not occur.  You may then encounter 'Error 5.5 - File 'CIOL.PLE not found....' but this is OK as once you do a successful lighting calculation this error will not appear again.

As you probably know Perfect Lite is largely a DOS application (except for the P Category & V Category modules).  A recent upgrade to Perfect Lite (version 4.86) now allows it to run successfully on the following versions of Windows:-

  • Windows 95
  • Windows 98 & 98 Second Edition
  • Windows NT
  • Windows 2000 Professional
  • Windows XP Professional
  • Windows XP Home (some limitations apply)

The program does not run successfully on Windows ME!

The current range of Bubblejet/Deskjet/Inkjet printers on the market generally do not have DOS drivers as they are meant to only print from Windows Applications.  As the main module of Perfect Lite is a DOS application printing has become a problem.  However, Version 4.84 (onwards) now has the facility to print via the Windows Print Manager overcoming this problem & in some ways even simplifying the identification of the printer in Perfect Lite.

Perfect Lite can be loaded on and run from a Network drive.  However, the software will only allow one user to run the the software at a time.  If you have a large office and are likely to have more than one user wanting to run the software then your best option is to purchase additional copies of the software.

Conversion of Perfect Lite from a DOS application to a GUI Windows application has commenced.  Due to the size of the software it will be carried out in several stages.  To date the following modules have been converted:-

P Category Lighting software
V Category Lighting software

Twenty (20) sample luminaires are provided with Perfect Lite for evaluation purposes only. It is up to the purchaser of the software to obtain photometric I-table data from the various manufacturers and load them into the Library files maintained by the program. This data is usually readily available on disk.

SAASTAN.EXE is a program included as part of AS1158.2 - 1986 (Public Lighting Code) distributed by Standards Australia. The V Category Lighting software requires this program to operate fully but I do not provide it as part of the Perfect Lite package.
